I received my law degree from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings), in 2004 and in 2005 began working for a small estate planning and elder law practice in Santa Rosa. When I first took this job, I wasn’t sure I would like the practice area-I visualized spending inordinate amounts of time proofreading monotonous, dry documents. But I loved the job! I discovered that at its core, estate planning is about people. And their relationships with each other. And while there certainly was proofreading involved, it was a small price to pay for the joy I got from helping families connect and support one another.
In 2007, I decided to find a job a bit closer to my home in Marin County, and took a position as an estate planning and special needs law attorney at Freitas, McCarthy, MacMahon and Keating in San Rafael. The managing estate planning partner at Freitas became a career-long mentor.
In 2009, I left Freitas and started the Turner Law Offices. I have practiced on my own ever since.
Though I no longer have other attorneys working with me in my office, I continue to learn from mentors, I meet regularly with my estate planning study groups, and belong to and/or volunteer for the following organizations:
- California Bar Association
- The Trusts and Estates Section of the CBA
- The California Lawyers Association
- The Marin County Bar Association
- The Probate and Estates Section of the MBA
- Estate Planning and Special Needs
- Panel of California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform
- Marin County Estate Planning Council
- Legal Aid of Marin County
- National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys
